Episode 4: How to Boil an Egg

Since you're probably still reeling from all of the How to Lie instructional advice from earlier today, I'm closing out the maiden voyage of The Psychopedia with an easy one. IN THEORY it's easy. Do you take suggestions? Because I'd like a "How To Divide Day Lilies" someday.

The only two things I know how to do in the kitchen are boil an egg and cook pasta. Please, don't cover pasta. I couldn't bear to discover I'd been doing that wrong, too.

I'm scared to leave a comment.

But.

Don't you cover them with COLD water after a bit, so they peel more easily?

I do.

Not all the details can be covered on an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper. God!

Hmmmm. I've never added salt. What's its purpose?

Salt does two things. It lowers the boiling temperature of water (I think I learned that in 7th grade home ec which was before plate tectonics, so, you know...)and if the eggs crack a bunch of salt in the water will keep the whites from oozing out all icky-like.
